Series and Parallel Circuits

Sunday September 21, 2008

Series and parallel circuits are both used in electrical wiring in and around the home. The question is, can you identify which electrical devices are used for each type? To clear up the picture and make it crystal clear, I've laid out some of examples of each in this insightful tutorial.

A lighting circuit is a good example of the difference between series and parallel circuits. Although they both use light bulbs of some sort, one type will shut off all of the lights if you take a bulb out of the circuit, while the other will allow the remaining lights to burn. Although you may think that they sound pretty much the same, you'll soon find out how different series and parallel circuits really are.
