Light fixture problems can cause a number of problems in your home. Analyzing light fixture problems can be a tedious chore, but not impossible. Light bulbs not lighting, flickering lights, switch problems, and wiring problems all can be the culprits. By systematically going through the list of problems and potential fixes, you should be able to track down the problem that plagues your light fixture.
A typical incandescent bulb has a life span on average of about 900 hours. If your light bulbs are burning out too early then you may want to find out why. Loose contacts with the bulb can be caused by vibrations in ceiling fans. The bulbs can sometimes back out of the sockets and because the connection isn't secure, can cause the bulb to overheat. When installing ceiling fan light kits, be sure that you tighten the bulb securely in the socket. A great choice is to use rough service bulbs that can handle a beating and they keep on burning. These bulbs are specifically designed to take the brutal beating they get day in and day out on construction site jobs.
The light socket itself sometimes becomes the culprit. This can be caused by loose connections or an over-sized bulb incorrectly placed in the socket. If the socket or its components show signs of overheating or unnatural wear, you may have to replace a socket.
