First, before beginning this project, unplug the dryer cord, if it isn't already disconnected from the outlet. In order to install a new 4-prong electric clothes dryer cord, you must first remove the 3-prong cord. To do this, remove the electrical connection cover plate. Use a 1/4" or a 5/16" nut driver, whichever your particular dryer has, to remove the cover plate mounting screw. Then remove the cover plate by pulling it towards you and lift the plate out of the slot opposite the screw. this will expose the three electrical connection screws and the ground wire connection.
