Single-pole Switch Being Wired

Timothy Thiele
In order to check a single-pole switch for proper operation, disconnect the two hot wires and check the continuity between the two posts while turning the switch on and off. To do this, take a screw driver and remove the two wires. Using an ohm meter, touch one lead to each terminal of the switch and turn the switch on and off. In one position the ohms should be infinite and the other it should be 0 ohms. If so, the switch is working properly. If the switch doesn't, it's likely defective.
