If you’re like a lot of people in an older home, the service is probably 60 amps and underrated. With the large demand for power in today’s home, a minimum of 100 amps is required. Larger homes will require 200 amps or more. Just as a guideline, a 100-amp service will run you around $1000. This will include a new meter, disconnect, wire, piping, panel and a weather head.

2. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

GFCI OutletTim Thiele
A skilled electrician can install this outlet in under 30 minutes. That combined with the price of the wire, outlet, box and miscellaneous parts will run you approximately $35.00 – 50.00 to complete.

3. Three-Way Switches

A skilled electrician can install a set of three-way switches in under two hours. This includes a piece of 12-2 wire with a ground and a piece of 12-3 wire with a ground. Two switches are needed and any boxes that might need to be changed. This will run $55.00 - $70.00 for a complete installation.

4. Outlet

Receptacle (Outlet)Tim Thiele
A standard outlet can be installed in under 30 minutes. An outlet, box, wire and labor should run you 35.00 - $50.00 for the installation.

An outlet to run a larger 220-volt outlet requires larger wire. That means the cost of this operation is a little higher. The combination of the outlet, wiring, box and labor would be around $40.00 - $55.00. The installation should take less than 30 minutes.

6. Single-Pole Switch

Prices for wiring a house will vary from contractor to contractor. There are many variables involved, so this is a general price quote. On average, you have to figure $30.00 an opening. That means every switch, outlet, light, etc. times $30.00. An average two to three bedroom home would run you roughly $1800.00 - $2200.00 for a complete installation.
